You remember them, those dazzling neon colors of bold-faced creativity brightening the 90’s like they were going out of style. Those multicolored pandas and teddy bears were hugging dolphins on every elementary school binder, dancing around the cylinder of every pencil, doing the imaginative bidding of their creator, Lisa Frank.
Lisa Frank has inspired young, budding women with her artistic magic everywhere and now she’s bringing that magic to… Seattle’s Mars Hill.
That’s right, the manful Christian pastor Mark Driscoll, who once walked out in the middle of preaching a sermon because he was too pissed off at men “not being men,” is teaming up with Lisa Frank in an unholy matrimony of kitsch unicorn art and testosterone fueled Christian machismo. This Super-Team-Up will bring us teaching on Song of Songs like we’ve never seen before; complete with fundamentalist leaning and florescent baby antelopes. It’s called the “Peasant Princess Series”–
Maybe gallivanting with bunnies will show us a softer side of Mark…but, then again, anything is softer than his scorn for Christian girly-man-ity;
The problem in the church today is just a bunch of nice, soft, tender, chickafied church boys. 60% of Christians are chicks and the 40% that are dudes are still sort of…chicks.
Lisa Frank, let’s see what you can do.
