“St. Jerome” by Caravaggio

Jerome was responsible for completing the Vulgate – the first Latin translation of the Hebrew biblical text.  Latin translations before Jerome were based off of a Greek translation (Septuagint) of the Hebrew, making them essentially third hand.

Jerome lived in the 4th century, Caravaggio painted him in the 17th, I uploaded a digital copy in the 21st.
